Red Rock Canyon is one of our favorite roadtrip destinations for climbing. We don’t get to climb there often because it’s so far from Oregon. I’m surprised that when I mention Red Rock to my friends that most of them have never heard of it even though it’s only a 30 minute drive from the Las Vegas Strip. Red Rock Canyon has the best sandstone climbing I’ve ever seen and there are just so many areas to climb and explore. The first time we were there was Christmas 2005 and both Matt and I really enjoyed our trip. We were just starting rock climbing so we did mostly easy 5.6, 5.7 climbs. We returned for Thanksgiving 2006: this time we had a bit more experience and got on longer and more difficult routes. There is such a large variety of climbs that both beginner and expert climbers will find the area appealing.
